Ultra-Sharpen 5 Pro Ultra-Sharpen Pro came in a very close second, and first if you consider how simple and fast it is. My only complaints are slightly less sharp pupils, and slight halo artifacts around the lashes and above the left nostril. Otherwise, it looks great. Here's how I made this scan: 1. I went to File>Automate>Ultra Sharpen 5 Pro:
I used the white point dropper on the gray part of the image to improve the contrast, and selected OK 2. I used the 5.0 pixel setting here as it tends not to need any adjustment, and selected OK:
3. I used the black point dropper to select the gray areas of the image, turning them black:
4. I hit CTRL-H (Option-H on MAC) to turn off the 'marching ants' so I could see better, and used the following Unsharp Mask settings:
These settings yielded the best image. Conclusion: Ultra-Sharpen 5 Pro worked extraordinarily well. It's automation made this tedious method of sharpening quick and painless. The results of only sharpening select areas of the image resulted in excellent quality and great control of what gets sharpened, and what doesn't. It only costs $25 (with shipping) and comes in a very professional package with a simple installation program, and even a training video on the CD-ROM. Also, it comes with both MAC and Windows versions. Hard to beat for the money. I have been using it daily for several months now, and after quickly paying for itself, I've been very satisfied with the results. You can order Ultra-Sharpen here: |
